If your child is an athlete and experiencing any of the following, they may benefit from psychological assessment and counselling:

  • Difficulty focusing or staying organized (possible ADHD)

  • Challenges with reading, writing, or learning in school (possible learning disorder)

  • Frequent worry, fear, or panic (anxiety)

  • Persistent sadness, irritability, or low energy (depression)

  • Low self-confidence or fear of failure (self-esteem issues)

  • Defiance, anger outbursts, or difficulty following rules (behavioural challenges/ODD)

  • Trouble with social interactions or understanding others (possible autism spectrum traits)

  • Difficulty balancing school, sport, and social life

  • Struggles with emotional regulation, especially during competition or setbacks

The demands of sport, school, and social life can often intensify these issues, making it harder for young athletes to thrive. At Insight Psychological, we offer comprehensive psychological assessments to identify concerns such as ADHD, learning disorders, autism spectrum traits, and behavioural difficulties like oppositional defiant disorder (ODD). These assessments help uncover your child’s strengths and provide clarity on the supports they need. Through individualized counselling, we help young athletes build emotional regulation, coping skills, and confidence, while equipping parents and caregivers with tools to support their child’s development and well-being—both in sport and everyday life.At Insight Psychological, our experienced psychologists work closely with children, youth, and their families to provide tailored counselling and support. We also equip parents and caregivers with the tools they need to support their child’s mental wellness, on and off the field.

Whether your young athlete needs a diagnosis, coping strategies, or simply someone to talk to, Insight is here to help them perform their best—mentally, emotionally, and physically.

Mental health assessments will examine the athlete's motivation, emotional regulation, learning abilities, mental health issues, and overall mental barriers to performance.

Assessments can vary from person to another depending on individual condition and needs.

Therapy

Through counselling, our therapists can work with an athlete to develop the tools and skills they may need to overcome the challenges they are facing.

Our therapist will work in partnership with the athlete to determine the most effective method of therapy, and depending on the athlete’s concern, together they’ll come up with a plan that makes sense for the athlete.
