PERCEPTUAL
COGNITIVE Performance

Most top athletes work hard to sharpen their perceptual-cognitive capacity, which includes focus and concentration, eye-hand coordination, ability to track and remember multiple moving objects/opponents at once, reaction speed and precision as well as overall decisiveness in a chaotic, high pressure competition setting.  WHY?   Because being able to gauge your surrounding and your opponent's actions accurately in a super short time span and then being able to respond to the situation very quickly and precisely can often mean scoring instead of missing a goal, getting instead of missing the winning inch/second ahead, and ultimately winning instead of losing the game.

At the Effectus Sports Performance Lab, we use effective, state-of-the-art tools to help you assess, develop, and maximize your perceptual-cognitive capacity, so that you can be your sharpest when facing your opponents in the competition arena.

For athletes who have suffered a concussion/brain injury, serious sports injury, or certain medical and/or psychological concerns that resulted in cognitive impairment and/or deterioration, Effectus can help them to rebuild their cognitive and functional abilities, work with other medical professionals to support their recovery as well as help them deal with the psychological effects of their injury and impairment.

assessment

Using state-of-the-art technology and tools, the perceptual-cognitive baseline assessment aims to evaluate multiple aspects critical to athletic performance including focus, concentration, attention, reaction time, multiple object tracking, depth perception, decision making and efficiency, eye-hand coordination, working memory, and more.

INDIVIDUALS

As an individual, you will spend 1 hour completing your cognitive perceptual baseline assessment. Primarily this baseline occurs using a tool called the NeuroTracker where you will be asked to track multiple objects in 3D. After completion, we will receive a baseline of where you cognitive capacity is currently at.

teams

As a team, we will have various athletes coming in through one day to get an accurate baseline for each person. We are able to complete 2-3 baseline assessments in one session.

 development

Our Perceptual-cognitive and Concussion Specialist, Jaci Freeman helps assess, re-train and re-build as much as possible, a person’s cognitive abilities in our development sessions.

INDIVIDUALS

After completing your baseline assessment you will then begin your perceptual-cognitive development. Each session is about 30 minutes long and we utilize top of the line technology such as the DynaVision, Neurotracker, and Senaptec to enhance your cognitive perceptual capacity. This may include faster reaction times, higher concentration and focus, enhanced eye hand coordination, and quicker decision making skills.

teams

As a team, athletes will go through eight 1.5 hour sessions where a series of stations will be setup that are designed to developed an athlete's perceptual-cognitive capacity. These stations will be tailored to your teams sport.

sports injury and concussion care

An athlete who has suffered a concussion/brain injury or other sports injuries may face various challenges including continuous pain;  loss of mobility/agility/strength/range of motion; and psychological effects such as drop in self-esteem, depression, anxiety, mood swing, and fear of reinjury. They may also experience cognitive impairment and/or deterioration which includes weakened focus and concentration, memory, learning and retention, self-regulation, speech and language, information processing speed, reasoning, planning, and/or problem-solving speed and ability.

Both physical and psychological injuries can have a debilitating impact on an athlete's athletic progress and future as well as on their personal well-being.

At the Effectus Performance Lab, we will use a multi-disciplinary approach where applicable to help the athlete recover from your injury, rebuild their capacity, and safely return to doing what they love best.
